Have you heard about ‘Live Resin’ ?
Have you ever tried it? We offer it on our menu and it we highly recommend you consider looking into it.
Live resin is relatively new to the cannabis world and is a fast growing type of concentrate or extraction. It has become popular amongst users and producers because it reserves the flavors and aromas of the living plant better than other cannabis extractions and is easier and cheaper to make.
What Is It?
Live resin can best be described as somewhere between a wax and a sauce like texture.
Typically, it is dark yellow in color but can vary from light yellow to white. Just like all other concentrates it is very sticky, meaning you will need a dab tool in order to handle it. For more information on dabbing, click here.
Users love live resin(s) because they tend to be very potent with a lot of THC. Furthermore, it offers a more fresh and more vibrant terpene and flavonoid profile that carry over from the original plant.
How Is Live Resin Made?
Live resin is different from other tyes of cannabis concentrates because it is created with fresh frozen cannabis. Fresh frozen means plants that are frozen immediately after being cut down at harvest time. These plants are kept frozen throughout the extraction process and skip the drying, curing, and trimming phases of harvesting.
By freezing the plant immediately, the trichomes are preserved in live resin and the cannabis plant retains its valuable terpene profile, original flavor, and aroma through the entire extraction process and into the final product.
After harvest, the steps for creating live resin are:
- Freeze plants/plant matter
- Extract the oil
- Process into live resin
Benefits of Live Resin
With all forms and methods of cannabis comes the benefits. With live resin, dabbers love how flavorful it is compared to other concentrates. You may hear users say it’s more “terpy”, which is always a good thing. Who doesn’t love that flavorfullness?
When preserving terpenes and trichomes, it retains the flavor profile of the original marijuana plant. Preserving trichomes also keeps cannabinoids intact, and live resin is also known to be potent.
There is also a growing benefit to live resin. When growers freeze plants a harvest time, it means growers do not have to go through the long processes of drying, curing, and trimming plant. The whole plant(s) can be “chopped” meaning cut down, frozen, and then sent directly to the extractor.
Producing plants for live resin actually saves growers large amounts of time, labor, and money.
How To Use It
- Dabbing
- Vape with a Dab pen or Cartridge
- Topping Off – meaning add live resin on top of a bowl, joint or blunt for an extra kick
Live Resin vs. Live Rosin
Live resin is created by putting frozen cannabis plants through a solvent extraction, which uses a chemical such as butane or propane.
Live reisn and live rosin are not the same thing.
Live rosin is solventless meaning it uses heat and pressure to remove trichomes from the plant, usually through a press.
