It’s Time To Clean Your Glass Piece

bong

Be honest, when was the last time you cleaned your bong, pipe or bubbler?

If you are reading this, it is probably time.

Let us help you with a few tips and tricks.

Signs It May Be Time

First things first, depending on how much you smoke out of your piece will determine how often you need to clean.

Weekly is fine with a moderate amount of use. If you only smoke out of your piece occasionally, you can most likely go longer. If it has been months since you’ve cleaned a piece, it’s definitely time.

When smoking out of a glass piece for some time, tar will begin to build up. This makes hits harsher, probably causing you to have a coughing attack and unfortunately dulling the flavor of the smoke. Nobody wants that.

For bongs and bubblers, it’s best to change the water before smoking once a day, or every time you use it. Water that sits in a piece too long will be full of tar and debris.

Is there anything better than taking a hit out of a fresh cleaned bong, pipe or bubbler? The taste of flavor from the strain and the smoke are worth it alone.

How To Clean

Cleaning a glass bong, pipe, or bubbler is easy. Don’t put it off just because you think you don’t have the time.

All you need is:

  • Isopropyl alcohol—70% works fine; 90% is better
  • Coarse salt

Salt isn’t necessary but it will help dislodge chunks of resin if needed.

The option to buy bong cleaners is available at smoke shops or weed stores, but they are often expensive and have other chemicals in them that are not necessary.

How To Clean (Leafly):

  • Pour out the water if it’s a bong or bubbler
  • Pour alcohol and coarse salt into the piece
  • Plug the holes and shake it for a minute or two
  • Pour out alcohol/salt mixture
  • Rinse with warm water to make sure no alcohol or salt are left
  • Let it dry until it doesn’t smell like alcohol (usually an hour or so)
  • Repeat if necessary

For tough tar, let the piece soak in alcohol for a few hours or overnight. You can use a pipe brush and scrub it after pouring out the alcohol.

If a piece is small enough, soak the whole thing in a container with alcohol and salt.

Just a friendly reminder, go slow. Be careful not to break a glass piece while cleaning it. When you are shaking the piece, this is prime territory for breakage. Place a towel down whereve you are cleaning so it doesn’t break if you were to drop it.
