Cannabigerol also known as CBG is another type of cannabinoid that comes from the cannabis plant.
You may hear it be called the “mother of all cannabinoids” because other cannabinoids are derived from cannabigerolic acid (CBGA), an acidic form of CBG.
The two most common cannabinoids that come from the cannabis plant are cannabidiol (CBD) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).
What is CBG?
CBG is the decarboxylated form of cannabigerolic acid; the parent molecule from which other cannabinoids are synthesized. CBG is derived from young cannabis plants because they contain higher amounts of CBG than fully developed plants.
CBG is known to fight against inflammation, pain, nausea and helps to slow the increase of cancer cells.
Research has shown it also significantly reduces intraocular eye pressure caused by Glaucoma.
Strains high in CBG will be beneficial treating conditions such as Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBS), Crohn’s disease, and Cancer.
CBG is often found in smaller quantities compared to other cannabinoids in the cannabis plant. In most strains of the plant, only 1% of CBG can be found compared to 20 to 25% of CBD or 25 to 30% of THC.
CBG Strains to Try
CBG is being used to relieve pain without having the intoxicating or “high” effect of THC.
CBG products are rare and more expensive due to the scarcity of them. However, CBG is beginning to gain more popularity as a result of the benefits the cannabinoid has to offer.
Below are a few CBG strains to try:
- White CBG
- White Whale
- White Widow
- Super Glue CBG
- Jack Frost CBG
- John Snow
- Frosted Cake CBG
- Sour G.
