2/3 of Americans Support Legalizing Weed

2:3 smoke

A new nationwide poll coming from Monmouth University shows that two-thirds of Americans support legalizing cannabis for personal use, in small amounts.

If you’re reading this blog, it is likely that you use cannabis or know someone who does for recreational or medical reasons.

We have seen a big shift in the cannabis industry recently where cannabis is becoming more widely accepted and a little less taboo.

Here’s to it only getting better from here.

The Results are In

The results came in on Monday so let’s see what they had to say.

“Polling from a variety of sources shows that support for marijuana legalization has been increasing consistently over the past twenty years,” said Patrick Murray, director of the independent Monmouth University Polling Institute (HighTimes).

“The poll found that overall, 68% of respondents support legalizing small amounts of marijuana for personal use. Cannabis legalization was supported by 76% of Democrats, 73% of independent voters and 52% of Republicans. Young people showed the strongest support for legalizing marijuana, with 87% of those under 35 years old, while just over a majority (53%) of those aged 55 and older support legalization” (HighTimes).

Alcohol More Dangerous than Weed

This topic of conversation has been circling around a lot over the years. What do you think? Is alcohol more dangerous than weed? Or is weed more dangerous than alcohol?

According to the poll, 54% of respondents believe alcohol is more dangerous than weed, wheras only 7% said weed is more dangerous. 38% said they believe the two are equally dangerous.

Futhermore, 45% of respondents also thought marijuana is safer than tobacco and 38% said they were equally dangerous.

What do you think?

1/2 of Americans Smoke

If you haven’t checked out our previous blog post, 1/2 of Americans Smoke, now is the perfect time.

As we mentioned, more than half or 54% of American adults have said that they had tried marijuana. Those who had tried marijuana were more supportive of legalization. 87% of those with personal experience are in favor of legalizing marijuana compared to the 47% who have not tried it but still support legalizing in small amounts.

Moving into election week, it looks like we will see what comes about for cannabis legalization. Fingers crossed for a postive outcome.
